DAN DATCU

Dan Datcu, born in ConstanÈ›a, Romania, began his formal dance education at the National Ballet School in Bucharest. In 2005, he started his professional dance career with the Vienna State Ballet in Austria and concluded his dancing career in 2021 at the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Germany. In 2024, he earned a Master’s degree in Choreography from the renowned Palucca University of Dance in Dresden, Germany.

Throughout his career, he has received commissions from prestigious institutions such as the Slovenian National Ballet, the National Theatre Brno in the Czech Republic, and the Mecklenburg State Theatre. His choreographies engage deeply with themes related to the environment and the human experience, reflecting his profound and socially engaged artistic vision. In recent years, Dan has expanded his creative platform by collaborating with emerging talents at the American Dance Festival, Performact in Portugal, MOSA in Belgium and the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden. His choreographic approach is distinctly multidisciplinary, seamlessly integrating dance with visual art, architecture, and film to create immersive, multi-sensory performances that resonate on multiple levels.

Datcu is currently pursuing his own research program at the Palucca University of Dance in Dresden, Germany, where he investigates improvisation methodologies in contemporary dance and explores their possible intersections with pointe work improvisation.
