IRYNA TSYMBAL

Iryna Tsymbal completed her ballet studies at the Choreographic Academy of her hometown Minsk in 1997. After her first engagement as a principal dancer at the Latvian National Opera in Riga, she was a principal dancer at the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vilnius from 1998 to 2002 and from 2002 to 2005 in Budapest (Hungarian National Ballet). In 2005 she joined the Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper and Volksoper (Vienna) in the rank of a principal dancer. In 2011 she was promoted to a First Soloist Dancer of the newly formed and renamed Wiener Staatsballett (Vienna State Ballet) and remained in that position till 2020. 

Between 2015 and 2020 she studied Ballet Pedagogy and Choreography at the Moscow State Academy of Choreography (Московская государственная академия хореографии) and completed this training with distinction. She has worked as a guest Ballet Mistress at the SNG Opera in Ballet Ljubljana and has given professional Master classes at the Ballet Conservatory also on  Ljubljana, in Spain and in Austria as well. At this moment, she is teaching at the ballet academy of the Europaballet in St. Pölten, Austria and at the Academie de Danse, directed by Oleksandr Maslyannikov. Miss Tsymbal has also concluded a professional training as a Romana's Pilates (Contrology) instructor in Holland

She created roles in ballets/choreographies by Pierre Lacotte, Xin Peng Wang, William Forsythe, Boris Eifman, Roland Petit, Jorma Elo, Jirí Kylian, John Neumeier,Vladimir Malakhov, and Krzysztof Pastor.

Her repertoire includes the title roles in Pierre Lacotte's "La Sylphide", Elena Tchernochova's "Giselle", Kenneth MacMillan's "Manon" and Boris Eifman's "Anna Karenina", Princess Maria in Gyula Harangozó's "The Nutcracker", Bella in Roland Petit's "Die Fledermaus", Juliet in John Cranko's "Romeo and Juliet", Tatiana in John Cranko's "Onegin", Baroness Mary Vetsera in Kenneth MacMillan's "Mayerling", Titania in Jorma Elo's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", Solo Shadow in Vladimir Malakhov's "The Bayadere", Consort of the Prince in Rudolf Nureyev's "Swan Lake", Enchanted Princess in Peter Wright's "Sleeping Beauty", Micaela in Davide Bombana's "Ballet: Carmen", soloist in Marius Petipa's Grand Pas from "Paquita", fiancée of the Young Poet in "Platzkonzert" by Gyula Harangozó sen. , Vivette in Roland Petit's "L'Arlésienne", leading roles in Ben van Cauwenbergh's "Dance Homage to Queen", George Balanchine's "Rubies", Serge Lifar's "Suite en blanc", Jerome Robbins' "The Concert", "In the Night" and "The Four Seasons", Hans van Manen's "Adagio Hammerklavier", Rudi van Dantzig's "Vier letzte Lieder" and "Moments Shared" (excerpt), John Neumeier's "Verklungene Feste", Twyla Tharp's "Variations on a Theme by Haydn", Jiří Kylián's "Petite Mort" and "Bella Figura", William Forsythe's "The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude", Myriam Naisy's "Ederlezi", Jean-Christophe Maillot's "Vers un Pays Sage", Jorma Elo's "Glow - Stop" and Helen Pickett's "Eventide" as well as Marius Petipa's Pas de deux from "Sleeping Beauty" and Vasily Wainonen's "Moszkowski Waltz". She created two roles in Ivan Cavallari's "Tchaikovsky Impressions". Outstanding television broadcasts include the Vienna New Year's Concert (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra) and the Vienna Opera Ball.

In Riga, Vilnius, and Budapest she performed the title roles in "Giselle", "The Nutcracker", "The sleeping beauty", La Sylphide", "Coppélia", "Carnival in Venice", "La Fille mal gardée" (several choreographic versions) and other important works of the classical, romantic and neoclassical repertoire including Boris Eifman's "Giselle Rouge", Krzystof Pastor's "A Midsummer's Night Dream", Xin Peng Wangs' "Contrasts…", "The Rite of Spring" and Valentin Elizariev's "Romeo and Juliette".

She made a plethora of guest appearances and guest performances in several European countries - especially in Italy and Germany (Stuttgart Ballet) - and overseas.

 

Awards: 1st prize at the Szczecin Ballet Competition (1992), 2nd prize at the Diaghilev Ballet Competition in Moscow (1992), 3rd prize at the International Ballet Competition in Varna (1996), the special prize at the International Ballet Competition in Paris (2000), "People/Artist of the Year award by the President of Belarus" (1996)
